Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is now the world's most followed athlete on social media according to Statistician Hookit.

Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo has broken many records on and off the field, and his latest one is confirmation that the Portuguese is one of the greatest sportsmen to have lived.
Ronaldo has reached a massive following of 200,000,000 (two hundred million) across all his social media accounts, a feat that has never before been achieved by another athlete.
The Portuguese striker has 109.7m followers on Facebook, 40.7m on Twitter and 49.6m on Instagram. Barcelona’s Lionel Messi comes in second with 120.8m followers, although the Argentinean does not have a Twitter account.
To further illustrate just how popular the Madrid talisman is, Hookit reports that Ronaldo’s followership is almost twice that of all MLS players and teams combined. The social media statistician also reports that the striker averages 135,000 new followers a day and saw a billion interactions in 2015 alone.

Ronaldo and Messi are widely considered to be the two best players in the world. The former Man United player will be glad he can flaunt this particular record over his arch rival, having been piped to the  2015 Ballon d’Or by the Argentinian.
If things continue Ronaldo’s way, the Portuguese captain could have around 400 million followers by 2020, twice the number he has today.
